Lichen is a typeface created for the 36daysoftype 2023 challenge. For the creation of this typeface, I drew inspiration from a hand-painted African movie poster (Ghana). Each letter was designed to evoke the intuitive movements of the brush on canvas, capturing the simple and precise manual gesture of a letter painter.
Lichen is a tribute to the beauty of the natural world and the richness of human cultures. It is named after this living hybrid organism that combines algae and fungi, an astonishing model of symbiosis and adaptation. Lichen is discreet but absolutely everywhere: in the deepest forests, on the highest mountain rocks, in the most arid deserts. It survives where few other organisms can, with a crazy resilience. Its organic and calligraphic shapes bring an elegance that fits perfectly for retro and exotypic logo designs. Enjoy!
A pixel typeface designed during the 36 days of type Challenge 2021.
