After 8 seasons of their successful podcast, the Baladeurs team is launching their publishing house with Alaska Highway, a graphic novel that follows wildlife photographer Jérémie Villet on the trail of lynxes in the Canadian Yukon.
Marie Larrivé illustrated this story entirely in paint. To complement her work, I created the cover lettering by hand, directly with a brush.
The lettering draws inspiration from American road signage typography—a nod to the signs that line the roads of the Far North. I created several painted versions before reaching the final result, seeking the balance between the regularity of highway letterforms and the energy of the manual gesture. This project combines two aspects of my work: expressive calligraphy and my knowledge of functional typography. The result evokes the immensity of the landscapes and the spirit of adventure while remaining legible and rooted in the visual universe of the book.
